Age of Majority and Legal Decision-Making
Thursday, Feb. 4, 2027
6:30–8 p.m.
Featured speaker: Sarah Kirkpatrick, attorney
Turning 18 brings an important legal change: decision-making rights belong to the young adult.
For families, preparing for this transition means considering what kinds of support, if any, will help their young adult make decisions and manage important responsibilities. Sarah Kirkpatrick will explain options such as power of attorney, discuss the guardianship process and its requirements, and explore alternatives that may provide appropriate support while honoring the young adult’s voice and agency.
This session will help families understand the questions to consider before age 18 and the legal tools that may be available.
