Planning for Adulthood:

Navigating finances, government benefits and the rest of the “now whats?"

Thursday, Dec. 3, 2026
6:30–8 p.m.
Featured speaker: Jeff Light, ChSNC

The transition to adulthood brings a new set of questions for families supporting a young person with a disability. What government benefits may become available? How do SSI, SSDI, and Medicaid fit together? Where does an ABLE account fit? And how do the decisions being made today affect the years ahead?

Jeff Light will help parents and caregivers understand the financial and government-benefit systems they may encounter as their young adult moves toward adulthood. The discussion will include SSI and SSDI, Medicaid, MiABLE accounts, protecting eligibility for public benefits, and coordinating these resources with longer-term financial and estate planning.
